This is an Altoids tin travel chess set that draws from two other models. The Chess pieces were originally made by Jacob G and can found here on his posting. (The original model is not licensed for remixes in general, however I obtained permission from Jacob G to post a remix in this case; as such, since this is mostly a remix of his work I will use the same license he used on his.)
This set is intended to be printed at .08 layer height with a .2mm nozzle; the board should be printed in white for 4 layers, then a filament change to black should be added to print the other 4 layers. I dare say you can get away with .1 layer height and a .4 nozzle, but it won't be as clean and you will have to scale the Z height of the board to make it work.
The pieces are mostly a direct port of the original that have been scaled down to 24% of the original size and had a pocket for a magnet added. The one exception to this is the King, I was unable to successfully print the cross separately from the rest of the model and insert it into the hole at this tiny size so I changed the shape of the cross to allow it to print directly as one piece.
The initial inspiration to make an Altoids tin chess set was from this model by Frank Deschner; however, the magnets I purchased did not fit his pieces and I was unable to alter them as I could not get a clean import of the models. I designed my own board model because the board in the original was not checkered in the correct pattern; in chess, the square closest to the player's lower right (spaces A8 and H1) should always be white. I also designed my own tweezers, this was again due to my magnets not fitting the pockets on the existing model.
I used these magnets from Amazon; however, I am only posting them because I know they work. The seller/manufacturer has astoundingly bad customer service, the magnets are significantly smaller then described, but this set was made as a gift and I had no choice but to work with those magnets since I didn't have time to get different ones. I will likely get different magnets and adjust the models to them, then post a version 2 of this set at some point in the future.
Special Note: The model origin is set to "New original model – I made it" because I am unable to link to the original since it doesn't normally allow remixes (I obtained special permission from the author to do so) and you can't set it to Remix without pointing to something; however, this is not entirely my original work. The tweezers are mine, the board is mine but inspired by someone else's work, and the pieces are a remix posted under special permission to do so.
