The amount of filament on the spool is difficult to determine as it is used up. This tool allows you to estimate how much is on the spool and decide whether or not to proceed, change the spool, or set your alarm to check the print.
Put a mark on where the spool is full. Place the “full”, 1000-gram mark on the mark and the 0-gram mark on the inside diameter of the spool. Then note how much is left on the spool.
