I needed to staple a few booklets and I didn't want to buy a stapler. This uses a finishing nail to make the holes.

Hi,

This is a manual stapler for making digest-sized booklets (an 8.5x11 sheet of paper folded in half size).

I needed to make a few booklets, and I didn't want to spend the money to buy an extended reach stapler.  Plus, I wasn't sure that the stapler would be able to get through the number of pages I wanted to include in the booklets.

Using this rig with a finishing nail creates holes in the right spots and the right size to just manually insert a staple after the holes are made.

I used some finishing nails I had laying around.  They're about 20mm x 1.2mm.  I'm not sure what size that is.  They seem to make a pretty good sized holes for standard ¼" staples.

I'm sure this rig can be improved, but it's working, and it did the job I needed it for.  Please make it better!

To use:

  1. Pre-fold the paper to make the booklet.
  2. Stack the paper to make the booklet.  I like to use a bulldog clip to hold the papers together.
  3. Place the booklet over the upside down “V” part so that the tip of the “V” sits in the middle of the booklet.
  4. Place top part over top.
  5. Hold down top part, insert finishing nail, and hit it a couple of times gently with a small hammer.
  6. Repeat for each of the other 3 holes.
  7. Remove booklet from rig, manually insert staples and bend them over.
