Introduction

When your children start to flip from the back to the belly or vice versa, it is time to start to secure whatever you might have in your flat. Things are slobbered on, things you thought lost appear in dipers. Fast forward a couple of months: your child walks around and opens doors, switches lights and turns knobs. To reduce the occasions where you have to intervene, you might as well just use this model.

Working principle

The grip of a 1.5 year old can be very tight, it is however not very precise or directed. They can grab knobs and turn them, however the fine motor skills are only developed later. Hopefully after the formation ot the understanding of language and meaning. Until then, this part helps.

Design aspects

To prevent an intervention by a gross motorist, this part relies on covering up the easy to access surfaces. You have to grip the remaining surfaces of the knob very precisely and with a unusual high force on the fingertips (the amount of force may depend on the torque necessary for your knob).

Luckily unlike in Star Trek, you do not have to disengage shields to change the energy setting. I can still turn the knob but my child can't!

Disclaimer

Obviously the efficacy of this part totally depends on the motor skills of your child. Use it with care and regularly check wether your child has gained a new skill that might prevent further use.

Printing

The provided STL File is for a knob of 23mm height and a top Diameter of 33mm. However my knob is conical, hence this model is wider at the base (diameter of 40.5 mm).

If you want to modify above dimensions, please use the FreeCAD.FCStd file and modify the sketch. There you can also modify the spacing of the interface plate.

The part is glued with double sided tape to the stove.
