With this smaller version of the popular califlower (Credits to Vector 3D) you can finetune your steps/mm and extrusion multiplier (flow rate) of your 3D printer to get more accurate dimensions of your 3D prints.
I've created a smaller version which can be printed in ⅓ of the time of the larger califlower but is offcouse a little less accurate. But even with this small version I managed to dial in my printer perfectly.
See the photos of my measured dimensions.
Calculate Steps/mm:
You can easily calculate the new steps/mm value using this formula:
- (current steps/(100 + measured deviation)) x 100 = new steps/mm
This can be used for the X, Y, Z steps/mm.
Example:
Dimension in X-axis should be 50mm, but after printing you measure 50.6mm
The deviation is 0.6mm. The current steps/mm for X-Axis is set to 80.
The new steps/mm will then be for X-Axis:
(80/(100+0.6)x100 = 79.52
For the Extruder E-steps/mm it is best to look at this website for an extensive guide.
Extrusion Multiplier / Flow Rate:
the CaliRings bracings are 5mm wide on all sides, so if you measure 5.4mm after printing there is a deviation of 0.4mm. To compensate for this you divide 0.4/2 and find the EM / FR of 0.2mm.
Print Settings:
The print settings are all up to you, I've printed with a 0.6mm nozzle (which I recommend everybody on using), 0.4mm layer height and 3 perimeters. Infill not really required.
Free for Everybody.
I've made the CaliRings free since I think everybody should be able to finetune their printer without making more cost. A donation is always welcome and much appreciated though. Buy me a coffee HERE.
