Made this mold for making bent veneer hooks.
What you need:
This mold (towel_hook_mold_upper_Mk2.stl is available with added groove to easily hook veneer into the mold)
Veneer of your choice (cca. 0.5mm thick)
Wood glue (Titebond 3 or similar)
Painters tape
Clamps
How:
Print the mold - you can add more perimeter layers (4) for stronger print - mold gets clamped.
Cut enough veneer strips 185mm x 20mm to get cca. 2.4mm of total thickness.
Put veneer strips in hot water to make them easily bend without breaking. 15 minutes should be enough.
Insert strips into mold without glue and clamp tight. Leave to dry for a day.
After a day remove the veneer from mold - if still wet let it dry.
Repeat 3. but use wood glue between the strips of veneer. Clamp tight! Leave to dry for a day.
After a day remove upper portion of the mold - if glue is still wet use some painters tape to hold the veneer in the lower half of the mold to dry completely.
