One of my biggest complaints of the grandfather is there isn't a good way to lift the lid, no handle or tool. Typically I resort to using a pair of pliers but I don't like using metal pliers on glass.

So I made a tool that is designed like a pair of pliers. When it's expanded it fits through the hole in the middle. When closed it expands and holds the lid tight. I have some nubs on the handle to keep it from falling through the hole.

I would highly recommend printing this out of a high temperature plastic such as ABS or PETG might work. The lid gets hot during the mash and temperature rise to a boil.

Supports not require., I would recommend a high infill ratio. The center pin threads into one of the legs of the plier. For some extra security you could add some glue or thread locker to the threads to keep it from falling out.
