Most failures of the syphon flush system in the toilet are due to the structural failure of the thin membrane valve. The membrane eventually tears under load and destroys the effectiveness of the syphon.

This design substantially increases the thickness of the membrane into a firm flap and has an area of reduced thickness that provides a point of rotation for the flap. A hinge in effect.

There are two types here. The first is for the older type ceramic syphon.

The second is for the more modern syphon with a spring.

I enclose the openscad file for you to play with.
