This is a net making needle I designed to reduce extra thread being off the needle. It is light and strong when printed.

I designed this needle when I realized the needles used for making our traditional First Nations dipnets were not as efficient as they could have been.

I made it double sided so either side could be used.

I test printed them and gave them to some local net makers and one said that the reduced weight of it not being of nylon or wood has reduced the strain on his elbow. He used to have to stop after 2 and a half hours to rest. Now he can work until he has to take a break for meals.

The net makers gave input for width, height, and length.

It weighs less than half the weight of a nylon or wooden commercially available needle.

I print with minimum of:

4 layers top

4 layers bottom

5 layers perimeters

 15 % infill

Adaptive Cubic

The needle is pulled on perpendicular to its length so I would recommend that it be printed with that in mind for strength.

I've been printing out of PLA and PETG.

The 10 inch needle is used for net making and is able to hold the same amount of thread as a 12 to 14 inch needle depending on how tight the wind is.

The 3 and 5 inch needles are designed for net repairs.
