What

A really nice 3D printing filament spool holder for the newer style Rubbermaid 21 cup storage container (1776473) which is often used as a drybox.

Basically, this is designed to be very sturdy, allow a maximum variety of spools (max width of 78mm) while being easy to print, smooth rolling and allowing for maximum desiccant.  Improvements over v1 include:

  • No more issues with the screws tightening over time which increases drag

  • Added additional support brace to keep sides parallel and improve rigidity

Print Instructions

ABS, PLA, PETG, whatever you like really.  I used 3 top/bottom layers and 3 shells with 15% infill.

Required

Each spool holder will require:

  • 4x F695 bearings

  • 4x 5mm diameter x 30mm long shafts

Tips

  • Throw in some desiccant and a humidity sensor to ensure your filament stays dry.

  • Use a drill or drill press and some sandpaper to get the bearing to fit onto the shaft if it's slightly oversized.
