The quimbaya poporo is a piece of pre-Columbian art from the classical quimbaya period. It is exhibited in the Bogota Gold Museum. Its main use was as a ceremonial container for the mambeo of coca leaves during religious ceremonies. The specimen on display was made around the year 301 BC. C.1

The art piece is believed to have been excavated from a burial chamber in the year 1930, in the municipality of Balboa in the department of Risaralda, at a time when theft of archaeological jewels (guaqueo) was common.23

In 1939, the Bank of the Republic purchased the poporo in an effort to prevent its destruction. This began a pre-Columbian gold preservation project and the creation of the Bogotá Gold Museum.
