The title says it all, a topographical model of the island of Maui! I created this for an art project for a friend, and thought others might want to have it as well.
This project started as a topographical mesh from Terrain2STL, which is a super useful website definitely worth checking out! I cleaned up the mesh, removed all the ocean tiles and scaled it down to a reasonable size.
The height has been scaled up a little bit (2.5x) to help make the volcanoes look as big as they do in person! If you need this to be completely accurate, you'll need to scale that back down.
Notes for printing:
I printed this on a Bambu Labs P1P with the following settings:
- 0.4mm nozzle (I would go with 0.2 if I had one, but it still looks pretty good)
- “Extra Fine” preset, 0.08mm layer height
- Ironing, which I think helped a lot
As you can likely see, the model came out decently stringy. It'll need some cleaning up. I would try printing on a lower speed to hopefully reduce the stringiness.
