One of the things I enjoy about 3d printing is fixing broken stuff which may either be unavailable or expensive. Recently i found the cap on the bolted trap screw for the stormwater pipe shattered to the point that I only had a shard remaining. Since it sits level with the ground it immediately became a tripping hazard. Unfortunately the local plumbing supply stores don't seem to sell the cap alone, but as part of the whole piece ( you can see and example at https://bluebucket.com.au/products/100mm-dwv-bolted-trap-screw-f-f )
Apart from not wanting to buy the whole piece, this was somewhat expensive for what it was so I decided to use the shard and measurements from the pipe to model and print a replacement.
I've currently printed it in PLA+ which isn't ideal for something sitting outside but thought it might be a good experiment to see how long it lasted. If (or when) it fails I'll print a replacement in something more robust.
It cost about $1.70 in filament which I consider much cheaper than the cheapest I could find.
