Hi there. I was designing a locking mechanism to keep my switch controller case shut (Here: https://www.printables.com/model/563885-nintendo-switch-pro-controller-travel-bungee-case ) and decided on this!
I thought about other devices but eventually settled on a low tech option; A stretchy string tied in a loop! If you thread a stretchable string like the kind you sometimes get on gift boxes through the hexagonal hole and tie it in a circle, you can stretch it under the bottom and then over the top and drop the end into the hook on bottom near the hexagon, it should hold firmly. You may also reverse the direction if you like or if you've damaged one.
You may need to tie it a couple of times to get the tension right, but that is just more opportunities to put beads on it!
I encourage anyone looking to add a closure for their prints that have a hinged or ridged lid to consider adding this on in tinkercad or other 3d editors and trying it out.
The hexagon shapes are in this design to reduce the need for support when this is printed vertically or flat, so hopefully the effort I put into thinking about the design will save plenty of filament around the world.
If you print my models and enjoy them, please hit like and upload makes. I enjoy seeing them :)
