Uses 2 x AA batteries and a BS-612 PIR sensor to drive a simple relay and provide dry contacts to control whatever you need. This one is used to control Halloween decorations.

Electrical:

  1. Observe the contact rating of your chosen relay (I chose a 1A @ 120V relay for signal switching only).
  2. The BS-612 seems finicky for resistance, I used 1M pots only but I should have used a 1M for the SENS pot, 500k for the timer pot with 1M of lead-in resistance (the lead-in resistance ensures a minimum delay). My schematic provided is reliably 3-180sec adjustable, but you can modify the resistance values and test for alternate values.
  3. The only real draw on this circuit is the relay coil when pulled-in. Mine draws 60mA when active, so expecting 24-48 hours of total runtime on 2 x AA batteries.

Printing:

  • Use paint-on supports to support the battery cover internal offset and Phoenix Contact output header (see photo).
  • Print the BS-612 hat with supports for the nut pocket (see photo).

Assembly:

  1. Install heat-set brass inserts into the enclosure (model uses 2.9mm bore for M2, 3.8mm bore for M3):
    1. 4 x M2 for battery cover
    2. 4 x M2 for backplane.
    3. 6 x M3 for top cover.
  2. Connect the battery holder to the backplane with 2 x M3 countersunk screws and nuts.
  3. Install the PCB onto the backplane and screw the assembly into the enclosure with 4 x M2 pan-head screws.
  4. Install the Phoenix Connector onto the enclosure with 2 x M3 pan-head screws.
  5. Install the BS-612 with “top-hat" into enclosure with 2 x M3 countersunk screws and nuts.
  6. Connect electronics, install battery cover with 4 x M2 countersunk screws, and top cover with 6 x M3 countersunk screws.
