I have a SimpliSafe Gen 3 system, but the base station is really bright when the system is enabled.  So I made a light shield to help make it darker.

  • Your first option: print the light shield in white.  The light will still bleed through.  The amount depends on your actual filament, but I'd guess this makes the light around ½ or ¼ as bright.  This is still pretty bright though.
  • Your second option: print the light shield in black.  This stops most of the light, although the model is still designed to allow some light to “leak” upwards.  This is pretty dark.
  • Your third option: print the light shield in some other color.  You're on your own here. I'm curious to know how this would look.

I used Hatchbox PETG for the prints in my photos; be aware that different filaments have different opacities, so the amount of light bleeding through may be different for you. The cord is a little bit of a tight fit, but you can make it work.

I'm including the parameterized Fusion 360 model; you can change the parameter “thickness” to try to fine tune the thickness of the model, and thus fine tune how much light leaks.

Thanks for reading, and I'd love to see your makes!
