Design

I saw a similar product from an unknown manufacturer and decided to tweak the design, add some features and adapt it for 3D printing. The main challenge was dealing with the large overhang in the soap compartment.

There's a drainage hole for the sponge and a gentle slope to help the water drain properly.

The thread on the dispenser should fit any standard Ø14mm (0.551181102 inches) dispenser ‘head’ which can be found on most European soaps/gels/creams/lotions.

I made a 300ml and 500ml version.

Print settings

I applied a trick on the large overhang, inside the container, that essentially divides one large overhang into several smaller ones. You can see this on the section view in picture four. This should allow you to print the model without supports.

  • 0.2mm layer height. Otherwise the overhang trick won't work properly
  • PETG or other watertight filament (if you use PLA use 3 walls)
  • 6 top shells/layers to ensure a proper surface finish on the overhang

Adaptive layers layers/variable layer height are useful if you want to speed up the print and reduce the stair stepping effect of the slope in the sponge compartment.
