When the operating handle hinge lug of my trusty 25 year old petrol Flymo finally snapped off I thought it was the end of the road (or lawn) as a search for a replacement deck proved fruitless. So I decided to try end repair it as nothing ventured nothing lost.
As can be see from the 2nd and 3rd photo the remaining slot was wedge shaped with the base falling away to one side. However, I measured it with digital callipers and managed to get a reasonably snug fit with a test piece before I went the whole hog and made a complete bracket (4 and 5). I managed to hone this to a good fit within a couple of fairly quick prints.
The final bracket can be seen in the remaining pictures whereby two columns were incorporated into the design which allowed stainless steel bolts with large flat washers to be slid up from the underside of the deck (through holes drilled using the bracket as a template) and pulled solid using stainless acorn nuts.
I was so pleased with the strength of this bracket (and it was nothing special just ordinary PLA) that I replaced the one on the other side too which was also on it's last legs.
This repair lasted a full two years and as far as I know is still working after I sold the house and left the Flymo there as I had no further need for it.
