Reduced depth handwheel which allows for the addition of a needle thrust bearing between the handwheel and the lathe body. Greatly improves cross-slide and longitudinal feed feel. No binding and allows for a smooth consistent feed.
Hardware
(1) McMaster 5909K2 / Needle-Roller Thrust Bearing
(2) McMaster 5909K292 / 1 mm Thick Washer for Thrust Bearing
(1) 5mm Heat Set Insert
(1) 3mm Heat Set Insert
(1) 5mm x 20mm Socket Cap Head screw
It's best if you get the center heat insert as straight as possible, but it seems to turn smoothly even if off a few degrees.
