While trying to figure out a way to give a gift to one of my Financial Peace University classes, I had the idea to have a gazelle with some of Dave's sayings on it. After seeing a low poly gazelle at Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3865982/files), I figured I could easily make that into a pen holder.
This is designed so that the gazelle/stand can be printed with a color change (if desired) and the text plates also can be printed with a color change. Two different text plates are included, plus a blank one so that you can custom emboss whatever text/design you want on it.
Printing instructions:
- Scaling:
- I have been printing everything at 67.3%, which brings it to about 4" in total height. You can certainly scale it smaller if needed, but note that the pen hole may get too small.
- The GCode files included are scaled already
- The STL files are original size, which is just under 6" in total height
- Layer height: 0.20mm
- Infill: 15% is perfectly sufficient (I printed the Pen Rest Cap at 100%)
- Supports:
- Gazelle Stand: Everywhere
- NOTE: Prusa Slicer was trying to put supports on the base where the text plates fit in, so I used a support blocker on the base itself as the “hole” for the text plate should not need supports.
- NOTE: I used organic tree supports, which worked fairly well. Cleanup will certainly be required, but with a small file and some patience this is no big deal. Just be careful with the delicate parts (antlers / ears).
- Text plates: None
- Pen Rest Cap: None
- NOTE: Print this upside down, with the pointy part up
- NOTE: I had no adhesion issues with this, but you can use a brim if needed
- Gazelle Stand: Everywhere
- Top Fill (optional):
- Shown in the pictures is the default Monotonic, but I think Octagram Spiral would look really neat (or possibly Concentric). Just note that the pen rest cap is not exactly centered in the base (the hole location was chosen via a highly scientific process so that it was a little further back at a thicker point in the gazelle's body), hence the design may look a little off center to those with OCD's.
Assembly:
- Just super glue in the text plates and the pen rest cap
