I needed to drill large holes into Styrofoam for mounting the top bar of our new terrace roof to our house. The core structure of our house is made out of wood with 16cm styrofoam as insulation on the outside. To mount the top bar sturdy to the wall without crushing the styrofoam I have chosen thick straight POM pipes (outer diameter 50mm; inner diameter 15mm; length 165mm) which act like spacers between the wooden structure and the alluminum top bar of the new roof.
50mm drills and 54mm drills for soft materials like styrofoam are hard to find… and the ones I found wouldn't fit into the 10mm drill chuck. The only thing you need to add is a 16mm flat wood drill (see pictures - this was included with a cheap drill set) - simply push the big drill or the enlarger-guide and enlarger-cutter pieces onto the 16mm flat drill.
Drilling requires a 8mm pilot hole to be drilled. Depending on the state of your wall you might need to remove the exterior plasting (if there is already any) because the plasting might be too hard to be cut by a plastic part (i used a circular hole saw and it got pretty dull cutting all 16 holes i needed).
If more dimensions are needed, feel free to ask :-)
