As of typing this, I've been making a lot of coasters, and I realized my simple coaster holder simply wasn't big enough to hold all of them. When I saw the model of Urithiru posted by Swinny, I had an idea. The result is a coaster holder that I find truly fascinating.
I have put out a number of coaster designs, and this can easily hold 25 of them with room to spare (not that you need so many, but maybe you like variety, or have a big party at your house).
I also have a set of 10 coasters for the Knights Radiant, if you want to stay thematic.
The file is a 3mf, and when loaded into PrusaSlicer you will see a large transparent cylinder in the middle. That cylinder is a negative volume that cuts a little into the model so that coasters can actually be put in. Since I couldn't feasibly edit the model in any CAD software that I tried, I had to get creative with the slicer.
Use PrusaSlicer if possible, as I have noticed that other slicers like Cura do not respect how I set up the model and may load the file incorrectly.
Also, the 3mf file might be preset for the Prusa Mk4, so be sure to check your settings before slicing.
Print Settings
- Layer Height – 0.2mm
- Material – PETG, PLA, or other (I used Protopasta Wonder Blue PLA)
- Infill — 10% Gyroid
- Perimeters – 2
- Top/Bottom Fill Pattern – Concentric
- Brim – Optional (may help keep the edges from peeling up, but is not required)
If you want the Knights Radiant symbol to stand out, you will need a color change at layer 2.2, and another at layer 2.6 to change back to the first color.
