These deck boxes are hinged and have a latching feature that allows you to open them by pushing the button on the front of the Pokeball.
Print a base, top, hinge, and button for all versions. The great ball requires additional “Great Ball Stripes” to be printed and glued onto the standard top. The ultra ball requires the “Ultra Ball Top” and “Ultra Ball Stripes”.
The base and hinge have two design options, a single open compartment, or a divided compartment. It's recommended to use the open top with the divided base to avoid accidental damage to cards while closing.
All assembly has been done with CA glue, but other options would work as well. If using CA glue, leave box open while curing and do not apply excessive amounts to reduce the chances of a haze appearing on the parts later.
Printing Tips:
- 0.2mm layer height and PLA have worked well
- Hinges
- The latch mechanism requires a small amount of painted on support. The rest of the hinge should print-in-place with no problems
- Ultra Ball Top
- Bridging Angle: Set 45 degrees off of the direction of the stripes to avoid unsupported overhangs
- Painted on supports in the four corners can be helpful to ensure the stripes sit down nicely during assembly
