My continuing experiments in designing and printing a trefoil knot.
Printing
The version I show here is printed at 70% scale in PLA. Unlike my previous version, this one has a “skin.” Use the gcode or 3mf file to print a similar version in PLA. Alternatively, you can try other fill settings, etc. to create your own version.
Additional Notes :
- This was printed with no infill
- The printing temperature was raised slightly in an attempt to improve the transparency effect
- I recommend using supports to keep the print stuck to the bed
- This version printed beautifully in transparent PLA with no defects
CAD
Since making my initial design, I have improved the CAD files by adding additional parameters for modifying the basic design. In addition, I have created additional “profiles” (the shape of a cross section of the loop), which can also be modified parametrically.
