Fishing Line Spool Box
A simple printable storage box for fishing line spools, leader material, and small tackle-bag organization.
The 3-spool box fits on its side in my Yak Attack Short Stack.
Recommended Material
Print this in TPU.
I originally treated this as a general-purpose filament print, but after using it around fishing gear, TPU is the better choice.
TPU gives the box a little flex, better grip, and better impact resistance when it gets tossed in a kayak crate, tackle bag, truck console, or garage bin. PLA works, but it is stiffer and more brittle. PETG works too, but TPU feels more appropriate for gear that lives around water, hard plastic boxes, and rough handling.
Best choice: TPU
Acceptable: PETG, PLA
Hardware Update
Use 1/4 inch rubber grommets from Harbor Freight instead of the originally provided grommet.
The Harbor Freight 1/4" grommets are cheap, easy to find, and better suited for this use. They make a cleaner line pass-through and are easier to replace if one gets worn, lost, or mangled.
Install the grommet in the line-feed hole after printing. It should sit snugly and protect the fishing line from rubbing against printed plastic.
Print Notes
Recommended settings:
TPU preferred
No supports should be needed
0.2 mm layer height is fine
3–4 walls recommended
Moderate infill is plenty
Print slower if using softer TPU
For Bambu-style AMS-friendly TPU or other semi-rigid TPU, this should be an easy print. Softer TPU may need slower speeds and more careful filament handling.
Why TPU?
Fishing gear gets abused. It gets wet, dropped, stuffed into bags, bounced around in kayaks, and jammed into crates with pliers, boxes, hooks, and tools.
TPU handles that kind of use better than hard plastic. It also gives the box a nicer “gear” feel instead of feeling like a brittle container.
Use Cases
Good for:
Fishing line spools
Leader spools
Kayak tackle storage
Bank fishing bags
Truck or boat organization
Keeping spare line from unraveling in a gear bin
Parts Needed
Printed spool box parts
Harbor Freight 1/4" rubber grommet
Fishing line spool or leader spool
Notes
The grommet is not decorative. It is there to protect the line and make the box feel more finished. The Harbor Freight version is now my recommended option.
