This has been a project Ive been conceptualizing for the last couple years and I'm excited to share my progress. I started this project with the aim of teaching myself about generative design and parametric design (I find I need a project to motivate myself to spend a lot of time learning something).
After a year of brainstorming, experimenting with the Fusion 360 Generative Design workbench and learning to use Grasshopper parametric design within Rhino7, the Proto1 was born. Packed with all sorts of experiments, it ended up with some pretty cool features:
- Stiffness optimized body structure
- Voronoi multi-pipe body volume
- Perpendicular torque bridge anchoring
-Linear rail sliding pickup
-Single coil Tele pickup with volume control
It is setup with a BexGears Strat neck and some flat wound strings. When designing the guitar, I was hoping for a very warm resonant sound, similar to a arch top, hence the flat wound jazz strings. All my design decisions on this guitar focused on promoting tonal transmission, while minimizing acoustic amplification. This is intended to get the richest sound while minimizing feedback when amplified.
Overall, I was very happy with how this guitar turned out, but I must be clear that this is definitely a prototype. I have plenty of ideas that I want to change for the next version.
For more information on the project, and a sound demo, check out this post on my website:
