A simple vase/tea light (LED only!) or hollow form based on a Koch Snowflake with 3 iterations.
Instructions
I use these as tea lights with Flicker LEDs from Evil Mad Scientist. See http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:34791.
To play about with this design, download the following files into the same directory:
1) 01kVase.scad - the vase.
2) koch2D.scad - the code for Koch Snowflakes.
3) Koch1.dxf, Koch2.dxf, Koch3.dxf and Koch4.dxf - the actual Snowflakes as DXF files.
The DXF files contain 2D Koch Snowflakes generated in Wolfram Mathematica. Unfortunately, this site does not support the Mathematica .nb file type. Anyway, here is the Mathematica code:
KochSnowflake3D[i_] := Graphics3D[{ Line[{#[[1]], #[[2]], 0} & /@ RotationTransform[Pi, {1/2, 0}][KochCurve[i][[1]]]], Line[{#[[1]], #[[2]], 0} & /@ RotationTransform[-Pi/3, {1, 0}][KochCurve[i][[1]]]], Line[{#[[1]], #[[2]], 0} & /@ RotationTransform[Pi/3, {0, 0}][KochCurve[i][[1]]]] }]
Export[NotebookDirectory[] <> "KochSnowflake1.dxf", KochSnowflake3D[1]];Export[NotebookDirectory[] <> "KochSnowflake2.dxf", KochSnowflake3D[2]];Export[NotebookDirectory[] <> "KochSnowflake3.dxf", KochSnowflake3D[3]];Export[NotebookDirectory[] <> "KochSnowflake4.dxf", KochSnowflake3D[4]];
Manipulate[KochSnowflake3D[i],{{i, 1}, {1, 2, 3, 4}}]
