I'm a big fan of Printed Solid's Jessie filaments, both PLA and PET. And while I love the eco-responsibility of their all-cardboard spools, they often get a dent, and just fall off of my Rolling Spool Holder, so There's a bit of a love-hate issue. That is solved by this reusable rim which snugly attaches to the cardboard to allow it to roll evenly.
Printing 2 rims requires <30 grams of filament, and since it's reusable, there's only a minimal compromise to the eco-friendliness of the spools.
These rims are intended to be VERY snug, so they are a bit challenging to install and remove. I prefer PETG for the rims, because I fear PLA getting brittle as it absorbs moisture and snapping. That said, I do leave the rims on if I decide to give the spool a session in the filament dryer, so I expect that would extend their life.
