(I wonder how quickly the take-down notice is going to come from these companies? Did I put enough ® in there? Do I need some ™s, too?)
This is just a 1" ball (RAM® size B) that interfaces with a Quad Lock®©™ mount, such as their vibration isolator or charging head. I've somehow ended up with a number of Quad Lock®™© mounts but not enough ball adapters. If you want to mount a charging head ($75) to a vibration dampener ($20) and then chuck that up in a RAM® socket arm, you've gotta cough up another $30 for the ball adapter which includes another mount that you now can't attach to anything. This saves you that $30 on an already eye-wateringly expensive (albeit robust) mount.
Requires a 15mm M8x0.8 hex coupling nut and a 20mm M5x0.8 socket head cap screw.
When assembled, the center axis of the ball is basically all steel, so it should resist shearing forces from the socket arm. I've printed it in PLA (which will melt in any kind of heat) and ABS and it seems pretty solid. If you're printing with ABS, add a brim to the ball. I used a layer height of 0.2mm with 4 perimeters.
