Some kitchens, like mine, have a fluorescent tube hanging under the kitchen cupboards. In my case the end cap had broken off. This endcap snaps in place and essentially bends the electrical contacts so they are in contact with the tube. It also holds the tube up and prevents fingers from accidentally touching the electrical contacts.
