I have remade the original wooden tool (made from old thread spool) my GF uses for knitting snakelike stuff. The inner hole is 15mm wide so the sleeve holds its shape during tightening, but it can be widened/narrowed.
Last photo shows what kind of ornaments can be knitted using this handy tool.
Printed with Prusament PLA, 15% infill with brim and ironing. No supports should be needed.
