The Smith Super Special (S3) is a competition funfly plane designed by Jerry Smith, released in the February 1994 issue of Remote Control Modeler Magazine (RCM 1162). This version is an electric, scratch built balsa plane, that I've ‘modernized' to feature a few 3D printed parts to facilitate the building process.

General Disclaimer: Building balsa planes is a time consuming, but highly rewarding process. This page provides a few 3D printed parts to make building process easier. This is NOT a build thread, or an instructional guide.

Description of Files:

  • Rib Templates (shaping/sanding guides for rough cut balsa)
    • Requires M3 Hardware (25-35mm bolts, M3 nuts, and washers facing templates)
    • Full_Rib_Template → 2x req.
    • Half_Rib_Template → 2x req.
  • Nose Templates
    • Print one set, that includes a right and left side. (or download one and mirror in your slicer)
  • Motor Mount (Exceed Rocket Series 3025-760KV motor)
    • If you are building an S3, and using a motor that requires different mounting geometry, I am available by commision (private message if interested).
