This is my artistic rendition of a Ankylosaurus skull. I tried to make it as realistic as possible with reference materials, but I'm not a paleontologistm so I wouldn't use it for serious business or research!
Printing instructions
Both the head and the jaw definitely need supports (on the build plate) to be printed. I printed in the default orientation of the STL model (head upside down), which is optimal for minimal support material used. But due to the many ridges, the print quality was not the greatest and removing the supports took a lot of time. To improve the quality of the top of the head, you might want to flip the model upside down for slicing.
For assembly, you just insert the tabs on the bottom of the skull inside the holes in the jaw. The tolerances are very large, so the jaw moves and click-clacks a bit. This also means you should be able to freely resize the model without any problems with subsequent assembly.
My post processing
For my print, I used modelling clay to cover over some of the layer lines and to achieve more textured look. Then I used black primer spray to cover the whole model and acrylic brown paint to make the base color. Then I used watered-down black acrylic color as black wash to make the cavities more pronounced. Lastly, I layered different colors of dry brush paint on the various surfaces to make some color variations.
