I recommend cutting the sword into dovetailed sections and then gluing the pieces together. Depending on the slicer you use, if you want a full-sized sword you will need to adjust the scale to 100 as some slicers scale the model down. If you scale the sword down then you shouldn't need to use dovetail cuts.
