Summary:

Filament storage that allows for quick visual check for what I'm looking for is helpful.  I don't want to spend time looking for something that I know I have.  So open shelves are nice for spools once opened.  The brackets were modified from the original, but like the original, take a ¾" PVC pipe ( ¾" ID, 1" OD).  The PVC snaps in tight, and holds very well.  I printed mine using PLA, and after printing the original model took a whooping 11 hours, I choose to remix it to see how much I could reduce that time.

Printing:

There are two parts to the design.

  1. Frame:  This is the outer part, it needs the majority of strength as it is the part that the pipe snaps into.  4-5 perimeter walls are the maximum you should need, remember, it prints both outside and inside. ;)  Use a reasonable amount of infill, I've been printing 25% gyroid with no issues.

  2. Center: The center part is what really cuts the print time down (depending on what you choose).  I chose to print Honey Comb infill.  By removing top and bottom layers, it retains the originals aesthetic, but cuts down total print time by half or more.  I choose 8% infill for the first one, later changing to 10% infill.  In terms of strength💪, you still have plenty for pvc shelving.
The Easy Method:

I uploaded a 3mf project with a mirrored pair that I created in PrusaSlicer.  It has 3 perimeters on the frame, 6 bottom, and 5 top layers.    The center has no top or bottom layers, 10% Honeycomb infill, and is recessed 5mm on one side.  I mirrored the parts so that the recessed sides could be oriented which ever direction you want.  This prevents you from having to align the parts, and you can tweak the settings to your liking.

Hope you find these as useful as I have!

Update July 2025:
All the same geometry, but improved the 3mf project files and location of the parts to help those that had issues with alignment.  Updated print instructions above as well.
