I've been experimenting with flexible PLA and testing ideas for printable fabric. This simple concept is the most successful I've come up with so far. The idea was simply to give a “square” longer sides than it needs to be a square, hence the zig zag. More complicated spiral/polar concepts have simply not worked as well.
On my textured PEI plate, I had trouble with the flexible PLA sticking too well. It would come off, but due to the fragile nature of the mesh it was easy to break. I solved this by putting down a single 0.1mm layer of normal PLA first, then the flexible PLA, then the structure with more normal PLA. I did all of this using only “color” changes in Prusa Slicer because the flexible PLA can print with the exact same settings as normal PLA (though I did limit the volumetric flow rate to 2.5mm³/s). The first 0.1mm layer of normal PLA is so thin that it doesn't impact the flexibility noticeably.
I'm super pleased with how well flexible PLA and normal PLA bond and I think it's something that's ripe for further development. I'm surprised more people aren't experimenting with it.
