You can never have enough pieces when it comes you building toys. The only issue is when they stopped making new ones decades ago. This project aims to recreate a printable knot that functions as close to the original part as possible.

This is a set of 2 files to recreate the ubiquitous ‘knot’ for Construx building toys from the 80's. The knot prints in 4 pieces (2 of each half of the outer and middle parts) this allows it to print with no supports and ideally in the strongest orientation for the parts.  The parts are all designed with tight tolerances to lock together when fully assembled. (If you have ever tried to take apart an actual knot, this is similar, but not identical.) I had luck printing these on a textured PEI plate. (The texture seems to help the two halves ‘grip’ well.)

The image shown is a gray PLA+ print (on the left) next to an original blue part (for comparison) Strength wise the PLA+ seemed to behave quite well. Clearly this replica of a part originally designed to be injection molded in ABS.

Stock Disclaimer: This whole print is, by definition a small part and should be kept out of reach of children that could choke on the parts. This is for big kids to play with. Use common sense with how and where you use it.
