My original design inspired by the wheel of the HMS Victory. Based on the ideas from this article, all credit for the concept to those who have designed this type of indicator before
How to visualize extruder motor movements - Original Prusa 3D Printers
This is a stepper motor indicator, example printed in PETG with a layer height of 0.15mm on a 0.4mm nozzle, comes out very well printed in PLA also, with a slightly cleaner finish
To fit it you will need an 8 mm width x 4 mm depth cylinder rare earth magnet, place a small drop of superglue in the depression and then press the magnet into place
The wheel has a standoff on the back to bring it slightly away from the motor itself, in keeping with the look of a ship's wheel and to allow some clearance for the heat sink I have on my extruder motor
