EDIT: If you download and don't post a make, shame on you.

UPDATE: A new version - v10 - is now available. Printed it in PLA, looks good.

Changelog:

  1. Bottom filleted (to prevent loss of digits!!! :)), as suggested by maker.
  2. Cover knurled to make the thing more user-friendly.

UPDATE: A new version - v9 - is now available (original is v3, all automatically versioned by Fusion).
Changelog:

  1. Much larger diameter of 100 mm (compared to 50).
  2. Larger height: 30 mm.
  3. A small on-ramp for the ants around the entrance (included in the diameter).
  4. A hook inside for sticking pieces of fruits or anything sweet to attract the ants.

End of update.

This bait station was designed with cat safety in mind (as three cats own me). I needed it to properly block any attempt at licking the poison - so there are two walls between the poison and the outside and a total of 20 mm distance between where the poison goes and the outside. It was also extremely important to me that the lid will be closed properly and not by any sticky band of masking tape or something like that, because my cats would open that in a heart beat. So the lid screws properly into the base. Inside the base, there is a 1 mm high, 20 mm in diameter, round “stage” where the poison should be placed. In all the walls there are 3X3 mm flushed holes for ants to enter the station through.

Printing:

  1. I used PLA but it should work for any hard plastic. In the makes someone made it woth PETG.
  2. Print the base standing upright and the lid upside-down.
  3. Better use a nozzle no wider than 0.4, or at least limit your line height to around 0.3 at most. I am not sure about that but when I printed rougher than that, ants tended to ignore the trap. It may depend on many things like ant size or where they like to go for food, so just consider printing it fine if you see the ants are avoiding it.
  4. No special instructions for the wall, unless your cat is making a full claws-on attempt at hacking the thing, and is close to breaking the outer wall. Never seen it happen with my cats but with cats anything could happen, so in that case try to print it again with 100% infil. Perhaps contact me for a version with wider walls also.
