Various cover glass spacers I use in my personal microscopy projects.

I use 18mm cover glasses, but OpenSCAD files can be adapted to 22, for instance. To glue, I use transparent nail varnish.

In some cases (model 1), the pins indicate the height of the spacer. Each layer (0.2mm) adds a pin. In other cases, the pins are just there to help taking the spacer with tweezers, apply the glue and place it.

Printing

  • Tested with PLA
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm
  • Ironing is optional, but useful
  • Polishing/evening the top layer out is useful, yet nail varnish is quite “tolerant” to a certain bumpiness

Models

Model 1: Square outside, square inside. Each pin indicates 1 more layer (ie. 0.2mm) height.
Model 2: Round outside, round inside.
