An educational toy for children that helps them visualize simple additions.

It has 10 different blocks from 1 to 10, each one with its number on it and a matching height in centimeters.

The blocks are 4cm wide and 3cm deep. They stack easily so they are aligned and stay upright (within reason).

Printing

In order for them to have a simple shape and a satisfying weight, these take quite a lot of time to print.

Import the 3mf file in your slicer, rearrange/remove/duplicate as needed and adjust settings:

  • Infill: ~ 10%
  • Layer height: Variable, down to .15mm for slopes & lettering
  • Filament: PETG (what I used) for durability or PLA for beauty
  • Nozzle .6mm (for faster print times) or .4mm (for more detailed lettering)
  • Supports: Absolutely not needed
  • Ironing: Can give nice results if you trust your printer
  • Color change:  ~ 29,60mm to make the letters & shapes stand out. I use a different color for odd and even numbers.
How I made the model

The blocks are generated in FreeCAD with a Python macro. The number shapes are made with Inkscape using the Ubuntu Bold font*, manually because it's harder to script.

* Note that the “1” block on the pictures doesn't use the correct font
