Warning! Before you print out all 12 end caps and 30 spans please print test pieces to make sure they fit together.
EndCap is designed to print on an X1C and have a press fit with the Span piece.
EndCap_L# are pieces that have a looser fit. Larger numbers indicate looser fits.
How to print
You will need 12 end caps and 30 spans (11 more end caps + the one you used to test the fit)
Supports: Depending on your printer the end cap may need to print with supports. Some of the angles are slightly steep and the print quality may suffer. Auto tree supports with a threshold angle of 40 degrees should fix any print issues.
How to assemble
The spans have angled bits that let them fit together around the end cap. The spans should be assembled so that the angled bits are on the inside of the object.

The flat side should not point inward

Next add more pieces

This is pretty straightforward until you get near the end.
The pieces need to be kind of woven together and the last few pieces can be a bit tricky.
Start with the piece upside down and slide it under the other spans.

Twist the piece so that it snakes through

And press the piece in to place.

OK, but what is it?
Well, this is not my original idea. Someone forwarded a post to me where someone built a cardboard version of this model.
The basic construction is a diamond of ratio 2.618 : 1

You can then cut out some sections

These can then be stuck together to form a complex shape

However, assembling this is deeply annoying, so I made a version with separated end caps which can be easily assembled.
