With these four models, pupils can discover and learn the volume formula for the pyramid and the cone themselves.
They are familiar with the volume formula for the cuboid and the cylinder. They measure the volume of the four solids with water and a measuring cup.
By comparing the volumes and the similarity of the bases of the solids, they discover the factor 1/3 for the volume formulae of the pyramid and the cone as the only change compared to the formulae they already know.
This makes mathematics fun and understandable.
