Counting matching models…
In 2017, the Event Horizon Telescope observed the giant black hole in the center of the galaxy M87. After a great deal of work, in 2019 the collaboration released an image they had produced from the data. It shows the shadow of the black…
The MMU2 normally mounts on the top crossbar of the mk3 at an angle. This limits the total height of the machine and is fine if you are accessing the printer from above. I put my printer in a LACK-based stand (not an enclosure) that puts…
This is a script that generates models of the star and planets in a planetary system; I've used it to generate models for our solar system and for TRAPPIST-1, a system with many earth-like planets around a much smaller star. These models…
When the MMU2 is added to the mk3, the filament spools can take up a lot of room. I don't need an enclosure, but the IKEA LACK table is still a useful item for building a stand to hold the printer and filament spools, plus I've tucked a…
This is a construction set for building polyhedra and other surfaces. Each piece is a flat polyhedron that can join to any other piece along each edge. Obviously you can print pieces as needed, but I recommend as a starter set: 40…
This is a small parts organizer that can be printed piecewise. If you don't care about colour, you can even print parts using the multimaterial "wipe into object" and get these "for free" when you're printing multcolour objects. The…
This is a quick hack because none of the existing spool holders quite did what I wanted. This one clips onto the top triangle's 15mm extrusion and can be screwed in place without having to disassemble anything. The fit is pretty tight…
Fast Radio Bursts are millisecond-long radio flashes of unknown physical origin. One such, FRB121102 (named based on the day it was first detected), has been observed to repeat: from time to time there will be an hour or two in which many…
This sphere has a peculiar property: if you toss it in the air it is nearly impossible to spin it around the axis connecting both sides. The physical phenomenon is called the "tennis racket instability" and the mass distribution inside…
This is a set of very basic tests of the mechanics of your printer. The intention is that they should be fairly slicer-independent, and they should each, as far as possible, isolate a single feature of printer performance. XYZ size:…
This is a scan taken by the British Museum. I have included the original but also an STL with most of the (not very interesting) base trimmed off. The original work is Egyptian, perhaps from the Ptolemaic period (332-30 BCE), taken to…
This is a representation of the polarization of the radio signal coming from the pulsar PSR J0337+1715. This highly magnetized neutron star emits radio waves that sweep across the sky as it rotates hundreds of times per second. As we…
This describes the gravitational and centrifugal potential around an accreting neutron star. Called PSR J1023+0038, this system was a radio millisecond pulsar orbited by a vaguely Sun-like star. In 2013, something changed and the Sun-like…
This is a collection of puzzles based on a common theme. Some are fine in a single color, some are better with a color switch part-way through printing, and some work much better with multicolor printing. There are three basic puzzles: A…
A climber just coming up over the lip of my floor lamp. Printed in glow-in-the-dark PLA so she is visible for a little while after I turn out the lights. Print instructions Category: Decor Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer:…
My Mini Kossel uses machined Delrin wheels that run in the slots of 1515 extrusion. These wheels each hold two 623zz bearings, but it is impossible to grip them tightly on the shaft because they are supported only on one side. Tightening…
This Thing constructs trilobite-and-crab tilings. They are described in The Trilobyte and Crab: A Full Explanation, by Chaim Goodman-Strauss . These tiles can be assembled into patterns that fill the entire plane, but no such pattern can…
Yes I know there are lots of fidget spinners out there; this was a test of how to embed parts - bearings and nuts (M10?) - into a 3D printed object. Laying down filament on top of the embedded parts didn't work especially well, so the…
