Assembly Instructions

So, you were just awarded a new lockpicking belt on Discord. Congrats, truly! That's amazing.

But... don’t you wish you had something more than just a color change to your username to represent that? Don’t you want something in the real world to show off to your friends and serve as a pleasant reminder of the hard work you put in to become a better lockpicker?

The Belt Chip is meant precisely for this purpose. It’s something to proudly display to remind yourself and the world: Yes, I am a skilled lockpicker, and I’m proud of my accomplishments.

This Design Includes:

  • The multi-part (for multi-color) belt chip
  • A display stand for the belt chip
  • A magnetically coupled Dan stripe add-on display, with stripe inserts (Dan stripes). (Meant for black belt lockpickers

Design Details:

This chip was designed by, and attribution goes to, eschlenz of 44 Delta. It was created with the intent of properly capturing the moment of ranking up a belt in the form of a 39mm x 4mm collectible chip.

On the obverse face, you will find the belt and 9 torpedo pins (high security) around the perimeter. The number 9 was chosen as a nod to the number of belts in the belt ranking system.

On the reverse face, you will find a padlock with its body being cracked apart to represent your mastery of locks at this belt level. It is set against a tilted hexagon pattern in the background.

Along the rim of the chip, you can define a matching belt rank color to encircle the chip.

Disclaimer:

You are doing yourself and the lockpicking community a disservice by making and displaying a belt chip of a rank other than what you’ve rightfully accomplished. There's nothing wrong with displaying chips of a higher rank as motivation to advance your lockpicking skills. Just don’t be that person who falsely represents their accomplishments. Besides, anyone can verify your true rank by simply checking with the community.

Dimensions:

  • The Belt Chip: 39mm x 4mm
  • Display Stand: 58.5mm x 39mm x 29.25mm
  • Dan Stand: 66.9mm x 47.4mm x 14mm
  • Dan Stripe: 9.19mm x 12.18mm x 1.25mm

Printing Instructions:

  • The Belt Chip:
    • The intended design is to have the Obverse Face and Reverse Face parts colored something dark (like black), and every other part be some other contrasting color (like a belt color).
    • Additionally, to match the style of the production chips from 44 Delta, these should be printed on some kind of holographic build plate for the best effect.
    • You have two choices:
      1. Pull in the “Combined Parts” STL and split it to parts in your slicer.
        1. Pros: Easy to import just the one file and split it.
        2. Cons: You lose all the names for each part making it hard to color things.
      2. Pull in all of the individual STL parts of the chip all at once. (NOTE: If your slicer prompts you if you want to scale to millimeters, say no. It might prompt you a bunch of times over and over again. Keep saying no. I think this is a slicer bug, or maybe a bug with how CAD exports the individual parts as STLs.)
        1. Pros: All the parts retain their names making coloring easy.
        2. Cons: That annoying set of prompts about millimeter conversion.
    • .2mm layer height
    • Whatever infill you want (I use grid)
    • No supports
  • The Display Stand:
    • Design intends for it to be printed in black, or to simply match the Obverse and Reverse faces of the chip.
    • .2mm layer height
    • Whatever infill you want (I use grid)
    • No supports
  • The Dan Stand:
    • Design intends for it to be printed in black, or to simply match the Obverse and Reverse faces of the chip.
    • .2mm layer height
    • Whatever infill you want (I use grid)
    • No supports
  • The Dan Stripes
    • Design intends for this to be printed in silky gold
    • There's an orientation marker on the back of the Dan stripe. It's a little circular cutout. This side should face the build plate.
    • There are left and right side Dan stripes corresponding to the side of the Dan stand they are installed in.
    • You need 3 left and 3 right Dan stripes to fill up a Dan stand.
    • .2mm layer height
    • Whatever infill you want (I use grid. Probably won't even come into play for such a small part.)
    • No supports
