Gridifixo - Omnifixo Storage box

Do you like how Omnifixo snaps together into its own case? I do too, so feeling absolutely love-struck by that thing I tried to create a storage box for soldering utilities that works on the same principle. With serious snapping, tedious tolerances, overcomplicated geometry and tiny viewports that started as happy little accident but were kept in an attempt to borrow a little bit of original Omnifixo design language.

The Good stuff

So here it is. A 3x2 Gridfinity compatible box that uses Omnifixo OF -M4.4 baseplate as a cover. No additional magnets or other hardware, just extruded plastic and Omnifixo parts. Omnifixo feet snaps in dedicated spaces and holds the cover in place. Clips have their own storage space not interfering with internal gridfinity grid.

Box can be scaled in height to anything above gridfinity 5U. All photos and testing were done in that size. Anything less and clips won't have enough space. There aren't many 2U bins available so you can use my series of cramped bins, but any bin following Gridfinity standard and having stackable lip should fit just as well. 

The Bad Stuff

The model has a lot of tight tolerances and was made with 0.4mm nozzle and 0.42mm line width in mind. Pictured unit is printed in PETG in 0.2mm layer height. I did not test other materials or settings. It came a little overextruded in my case which worked fine but I cannot test if it will come up just the same for you. If it won't work please let me know, I'd like to refine this model according to your feedback. 

Edit 23.10.24 - Increased size of clip space. Ball should fit easier. Added underside grid with generous clearances so the box can be placed on gridfinity base and not slide.
