Iguanodon was a genus of ornithopod dinosaurs that lived approximately 126 to 122 million years ago in the early Cretaceous period. This herbivore was one of the first dinosaurs to be discovered and is characterized by its unique thumb spikes, which were likely used for defense or foraging. Iguanodon walked both bipedally and quadrupedally and had a long tail that helped with balance. Its duck-billed snout suggests a diet that included a variety of vegetation.
