Sculpfun iCube Pro Mods
I recently purchased an iCube laser and am quite impressed with the quality of the parts it can produce.
However, I am not very impressed with the build quality of the machine itself. It has a lot of design flaws that could have been easily avoided.
By the second day of using it, I was annoyed enough to start making improvements.
These designs are not super sophisticated and most of the time the first iteration worked well enough for me. But I would like to see improved versions of these concepts. That use less filament, look nicer...
Magnetic filter cover with stepping switch
It is nice that it has a built-in filter, but replacing it is far too difficult.
At least when cutting wood the filtration is not enough and you should add a hose to vent outside the window.
This way the filter does more harm than good by reducing the airflow. So I needed a quick way to remove it.
I had to split the main body to fit my 250mm print bed. You can screw them together with M3 screws or just glue them together.
You will need four 5x1.5mm magnets and four 12x6x0.4mm metal plates.
And four M3 headset inserts (5x6 or 5x4).
I have a steady supply of these from a smoking friend as they are used on Gizeh Rolling Paper.
Good for me, bad for his health I suppose.
You can also get these magnets for cheap on amazon and just glue a washer or something to the cover.
You can also add a switch to the frame to switch between the X-axis stepper and an externally connected roller.
I used this Heschen Miniatur-Kippschalter MTS-402 ON-ON 4PDT 12-polig, 2A 250V, 5A 120V, 2 Stück
It's deliberately placed on the inside so you can't accidentally switch the steppers while the machine is running. They should only be switched when the machine is switched off.
Shielding seal
The acrylic shield is nice, but it doesn't fit very well and leaks some light and air.
Attach it with some double-sided tape and m3x12mm screws.
Replacing the countersunk screws will also give you more room to adjust the angle of the top cover to make it fit better.
