These panels are designed for use in 19" server racks (EIA310 and similar). There are a few different types of panel depending on what you would like to mount or use:

  • Unfinished Panels - Unfinished panels are blanks that have no chamfers or finishes on the edge. If you would like to create your own, you can use this type of panel (note: 'no chamfers' means no chamfers other than on the face. There are chamfers on the face to ensure the part prints without needing post processing)
  • Blank Panels - Finished panels with a gusset plate at the rear intended to be printed and used as-is if you only need half of a rack
  • Equipment Panels - Used for mounting electronics equipment
  • Interface Panel - Used for mounting interfaces (e.g. D-Type connectors)

There are also backplates and trays to retain electronics on the front panel.

The following types of Equipment panels have been modelled:

  • Netgear GS105 Switch
  • Netgear EAX12 Extender
  • Micro PC (Dell Optiplex series or similar)

Hardware

The mount between two panels requires:

  • 4x M6x25mm screws (Cap/socket, button or round head)
  • 4x M6 Nuts

Additionally the following electronics panels need:
GS105, EAX12 Extender:

  • 4x M6x25mm Screw (Cap/socket, button or round head)
  • 4x M6 Heat set inserts

Micro PC / Optiplex:

  • 5x M6x25mm Screw (Cap/socket, button or round head)
  • 5x M6 Heat set inserts
  • (optional) Zip ties / Velcro Straps for PSU, Micro PC and cables

Print Guide

All Panels:

Print facedown on bed - this ensures that the panels do not delaminate whilst in use. Panels are 241.15mm long at their widest point, so this may require a larger printer (I have printed it on a Bambu Labs P1S). Nominal settings should be about 3 walls, 15% infill (0.4mm nozzle) - anything more robust than 1 wall, 10% infill, 0.28mm layer height should be strong enough as the Optiplex mount seems to be self supporting with those settings in PLA (the Optiplex was about 1.2kg and loaded for about 1 minute). PETG or ABS is recommended for hotter server environments.

GS105 Mount:

You will also need to print the part "Backplate - GS105 Enclosure back". You will only need one equipment panel (two are provided - one has pinstripes on it). When printed, you will need to use 4x heatset inserts into the back of the equipment panel to retain the switch with the backplate.

EAX12 Mount:

You will also need to print the part "Backplate - EAX12 Extender Mount Back". When printed, you will need to use 4x heatset inserts into the back of the equipment panel to retain the extender with the backplate. The backplate for the extender has a preferred print orientation - the chamfered face should face downwards.

Micro PC Mount:

You will also need to print the part "Tray - Optiplex Tray". When printed, you will need to use 5x heatset inserts into the Optiplex Tray to bolt the tray onto the panel. The optiplex tray should be printed on its side. If you're uncertain which way is up, look for the heatset insert holes - the teardrop shape should be pointing up.

To assemble:

  • Use heatset inserts on the tray and let cool
  • Bolt tray onto front panel
  • Attach to other half-rack mount panel
  • Cable manage power supply and cables underneath the tray
  • Place Micro PC on tray and secure with one zip tie / velcro strap on the back
  • Install into rack

Note:
Pictures are from the draft versions with reduced walls and incomplete features to save material. Some features have been moved or redesigned for improved printing.
