Model updated January 2026:
box height reduced - don't really need that much space to store the pennies and die.
added vertical features to outer perimeter - reduces box warping, improves appearance
added hex pattern in the base of the box - reduces warping, eliminates the "benchy hull line" completely
added tolerance between the box and lid so it closes without forcing
deepened the numbers/hole perimeter to 5 layers and connected them all with thin lines so they can be manipulated as a single object in the slicer
removed the pause for magnet placement - the MK4S at least prints the bridges just fine over the magnet holes, and I've glued them in without issue. I agree the result looks a bit rough but it works fine.
The last 4 photos are of version 1 - note the "bulge" near the bottom of the box!
Game Description
Played this at Christmas in 2024 with 9 family members and enjoyed it - it's now a must-play at every family get-together! Ages 6 and up, 2-20+ players.
Materials needed:
a 6-sided die
5 pennies per player
(2) M3x30 bolts for the hinges
(4) 10x5x2 magnets (optional) and glue (CA/Crazy Glue is good)
Rules:
The goal of the game is to be the first player to get rid of all your pennies.
give between 5 and 8 pennies to each player, leave the rest in the box. The starting number of pennies affects the duration - more lengthens the game. 5 should be the minimum though.
choose a starting player.
Each turn the active player must roll the die at least once. If the corresponding slot is empty, put a penny in it from your pile. If there is already a penny in the slot, the player must take back all pennies in slots 1-5 and their turn is over.
After the first roll, the player can choose to roll again, or end their turn.
After a player's turn ends, pass the box including any pennies in the slots to the next player. They now have to roll at least once as per above.
Note that slot 6 drops the penny into the box, where it stays until the end of the game.
Printing
I printed in PLA. The magnets help keep the box closed.
I used CA glue to put the magnets in afterwards, ensuring they are oriented to attract rather than repel!
Print the top (2-color print) with the numbers face-down on the build plate.
Files to print:
Lid_Nums
Box
0.4 nozzle, 0.2mm layer height.
I used 2 perimeters, gyroid infill 10%
I manually painted supports on the "top" of the hinges for the lid since the angle is quite extreme. I reduced the "Top Z distance" to 0.1mm and it still removes easily with a knife.
M3 bolts are inserted from the outside and the threads only engage the innermost hinge section.
